Second Sunday of Advent

Today is the second Sunday of Advent.  We lit two candles on our wreath and Patrick said a prayer:

During this Advent, let your light of peace and love shine in our world. Give us eyes to see the signs of your presence in the world. Help us to prepare our lives and our homes to receive the One who said, “I am the light of the world.” Amen.

There is nothing more lovely than dear faces illuminated by candlelight.

I love the idea of St. Nicholas Day, but my husband is concerned w/ whether my daughter will wonder why St. Nick didn't visit all her friends on the 6th. How do you handle it? Do you fill their shoes, and does he come again on Christmas? Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth! Well, St. Nicholas only comes and leaves a little something if you put your shoes or slippers out (by your bedroom door or at the foot of your bed or by the fireplace). So if your daughter's friends don't leave theirs out then St. Nick wouldn't leave them anything, would he now :). I tell my girls that St. Nicholas comes to see how many people live in the home so he knows what to bring for Christmas, to make sure we're doing our best during Advent and to leave a little something for the holidays. Gifts might include holiday PJs, Christmas books, candy canes and gold coins, holiday themed barrettes, etc. I hope that helps and that you get to celebrate this sweet day tomorrow!
