Ah, I love the start of things, and a new year is so full of possibilities and hope. I hope your celebrations were fun and that you're off to an inspiring start to 2009.
I also want to show you the mementos I made to commemorate the new year. I made them using Sculpey, which is quickly becoming a favorite material. While the girls took very long naps yesterday I played with clay, stamps and ribbons. I have to say I felt a twinge of guilt because this would have been a nice project to do with them. Still, it was wonderful to have some time in the middle of the day to myself (very rare these days!) to work and play and reflect on the year ahead.
Sabrina and CC slept and slept and I let them so they could later party until midnight, which they did! We had a great celebration at my sisters house again. Games for the kids, a Chinese feast for all, 12 grapes, talk about future plans and memories of our teenage years.
The ornaments are for friends and family. I gave one to each of the girls when they woke and they now hang on their bedroom doorknobs. My sister hung hers in her family room. I've put one in my study.
My wish for 2009 is for us to fulfill our destinies with energy and delight, to do our best, to explore all the good in us and around us, to find joy in ourselves and in every moment. I want 2009 to be about finding light in myself and helping others find their light.
SHINE!
On a more practical note, the start of a new year to me means lots of resolutions, goals, intentions and plans. Also weeding, organizing and cleaning. I'll be sharing some of these lists and activities soon.
Happy 2009!

Lovely! Those ornaments look a bit like medals, too! So a prize for a good job done in 2008 and a reminder to keep all things bright and beautiful in the new year. I like it! I don't usually make resolutions but this year I want to do some paying back for kindnesses (intended or accidental) to me last year when my hands were so full with my newborn (our third!) For instance, I discovered this wonderful blogging world of crafty people (a lot of whom have young kids and are keeping busy/sane creating stuff!) and I visit all my favorite blogs whenever (and only when) I was feeding the little one. I didn't get to comment as much as I wanted to because it was tricky typing with one hand, so this year I'd like to do more of that. And here is a great place to start! Thank you for all the wonderful ideas and thoughts on your blog! I intend to come back again and again! Happy new year!
We love our ornament, and I intend to leave it hanging all year and then some. Simple, stylish, unique, made with love. Thank you! I have caught up with all your posts and am reminded of how lovely this site is, what an inspiration for my everyday life.
