This is the Thanking Tree we've been keeping all November. Yes, it's one if those metal IKEA trees I never could think of a use for!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope we find a few more blessings to remember today, and let this day launch us all into a season of joy and gratefulness.

My Grateful Girl

I was so proud to see how many things Sabrina was grateful for on her preschool Thanksgiving Turkey feather. All month we've been talking about being grateful and growing a Thanking Tree to collect our blessings. A grateful heart is the biggest of blessing, I believe, and its something I try to instill in my girls every chance I get.

A few links to my BabyCenter posts related to the holiday and family, which can be useful and inspiring all through this season of celebrations and get togethers:

Activities for the holiday.
Ways to teach gratitude.
Readers share what they are thankful for.

All month I've been thinking about the things I am grateful for. As always at the top of the list are my two girls. But this year I am also especially grateful that they are growing closer each day, enjoying each other's company, learning together, playing, sharing time and space, and developing the relationship I dream of for them.

We had the wonderful experience of spending the weekend in a modern mountain retreat. It was such an inspiring place and we loved being secluded with only time for each other and ourselves. The house is in the mountains of Virginia and is made from a prefab kit. Its owners have filled it with beautifully selected furniture and art. The glass walls let us wake to the lovely views of trees and mountains. This is really our fantasy house, not just the look of it but also the fact that its spare interiors inspired us to read, talk, fully focus on the few toys and books there, and step outside to hike and wander about.

Leaf Prints

I don't know, but I'd say our leaf prints are almost as pretty as the real thing, don't you think? And I love that we recycled grocery bags for this project.

Inspired by Fall

After enjoying so much of the season's color, here is what Sabrina fingerpainted.

Last of Fall's Splendor and the Silver Lining

I have been unable to drive for a few days and so we've been home an in our hood a lot. At first we felt a little cooped up and sad to cancel certain plans. But there's always a silver lining... and this 3-hour walk though our neighborhood was definitely one. We enjoyed the last of the gorgeous fall colors, found a bed of leaves on which to sit and snack on dark chocolate and dried fruits, the girls held hands and picked all sorts of lovely treasure. We've been having perfect days like this all month. We are so lucky.

Alphabet Soup

Sabrina is very intrigued by alphabet soup games in activity books, but told me they're too hard for her since she doesn't know most of the words. So I made a special one just for her with the words she can read and write. She loved it!

Felt Acorns

From the challenge of finding the perfect acorn caps... to the pleasure of discovering a new material... to the fun of squishing wool in warm soapy water ... to the satisfaction of rolling perfect little balls of felt... to the delight of having a rainbow assortment of acorns to play with. This is possibly the year's most perfect project.

CC in the World

She's everywhere these days, and making the world her own. It's amazing to watch my baby become such a person. I mean, she walks, talks, explores, screams, kisses (with a big MUA sound effect). It's about all you need in life.

I love walking the halls of Sabrina's school to see what the children have been up to. It's like a museum of possibilities.

Oh, it thrills me to witness these first friendships! Sabrina carried her friend's bag and lunchbox all the way home from school. Once we arrived home she offered her bed in case the little girl felt like taking a nap "before starting our playdate."

The Monkey, the Flower and the Frog

It was such a fun Halloween that CC got chocolate all over her Flower costume. Luckily we had a Frog one in reserve.
